L&S New Advisor Training Session by Katie Paar

At the invitation of Liane Kosaki, Director of L&S Academic Advising Services, Katie Paar conducted a session of the L&S New Advisor Training in October. Katie spent the 90-minute session educating 20 new advisors about the ways in which the Office of Registrar interacts with and supports their work. Topics included transcripts, certifications, enrollment, grade changes and important dates/deadlines, as well as questions specific to the tools they use daily. Liane had this to say about Katie’s session, she “…always does a great job breaking down what new advisors find very complex, and intimidating, processes and makes them feel comfortable asking the questions to be sure what they’re telling students, and doing in support of students, aligns with the expected process on the ROside.” She also said that the RO-related session is one of the most popular among new advisors and allows them to fulfill the mission of their training program, which is designed to “provide an understanding of the value of the liberal arts degree, a brief overview of L&S academic policy and resources, knowledge about services provided by the Registrar and L&S Academic Information Management (AIM), high-impact practices, and the relationship between academic and career advising.”
