Learning about Diversity in June
Here are a few of the opportunities coming in June to learn about diversity and social justice.
- June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month. This June marks the 52nd anniversary of when the Stonewall Uprising became a major turning point in the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement. The Gender and Sexuality Campus Center provides education, outreach, advocacy, and resources to UW–Madison student communities and their allies.
- June is National Caribbean American Heritage Month recognizing the significance of Caribbean people to the history and culture of the United States. Learn more about Caribbean studies at UW–Madison in the Latin American, Caribbean, and Iberian Studies Program or celebrate by ordering some local Caribbean food.
- June 19 is Juneteenth. Juneteenth commemorates the date in 1865 when slaves in Texas and Louisiana finally heard they were free. Keep your eye on the Kujichagulia website for announcements on Juneteenth 2021 events here in Madison.
