Summer 2022 Financial Aid Offers

The team at OSFA keeps getting more offers out the virtual door — over 31,000 for 2022-23!  In early May, we began emailing out Summer 2022 financial aid offers to enrolled students – 3,300+ already sent. The most common type of financial aid offered for summer are Federal Direct Loans which depends on a student’s remaining eligibility for the year and they must be enrolled at least half-time. But based on their unique situation, they may be eligible for other summer financial aid, like the Federal Pell Grant, an institutional grant, or Federal Work Study. UW–Madison students with a NetID and the correct FAFSA on file can use our Summer Term Net Price Calculator for an estimate of the federal, state, and institutional financial aid they may be eligible for if taking summer classes. Financial aid eligibility for Summer 2022 is based off the 2021-22 FAFSA. So, what might a student hear from our office once they’ve enrolled in a summer course? They’ll get via email either:
  1. their summer financial aid offer, or
  2. a notice letting them know they’re less than half-time for summer and not currently eligible. If they’re enrollment increases, their offer is processed automatically shortly thereafter, or
  3. A notice letting them know they have no remaining financial aid eligibility for the summer term with recommendations of other options to consider.
We also send a handful of other email communications leading into summer to specific populations. An email is sent to:
  1. Current Pell-eligible students with remaining Pell Grant that could be used to pay for a summer course.
  2. Incoming Pell-eligible or FASTrack or BANNER students, to let them know that SOAR fees and on-campus housing are covered for them and one guest to attend.
  3. Summer Pell Grant recipients to notify them we are required to confirm their summer enrollment on Friday, 6/24 At 11:59 pm.
