Admissions Application Evaluation Training
The Office of Admissions and Recruitment has started transitioning to reviewing applications for the coming admissions cycle. Remote readers began three weeks of application review training the week of September 19. Admissions counselors and returning remote readers spent two more intensive days in training in mid-October, ahead of the first-year Early Action deadline of November 1.
With application numbers growing annually, the Admissions team has made strategic improvements to the application evaluation process, in collaboration with the Technology team, which was the focus of these trainings for new and returning counselors, remote readers, and leadership team members.
Training for new team members focused on academic curriculum and course offerings, school context, and academic performance. Additional training sessions focused on all elements of holistic review, including an applicant’s intended major, involvement and impact, essays, experiences, and letters of recommendation. The OAR remains test-optional this year (ACT or SAT scores are optional for all applicants). Key enrollment priorities were further discussed with staff as they begin making admissions decisions for next year’s class.
Trainings were led by Emma Sutkay, Teresa Rutecki, Nicole Shelley, Anna Bryan, and Liz Cheron.
