Decisions, Decisions – First-Year Early Action
The Office of Admissions and Recruitment released Early Action application decisions Friday, January 27.
The 40,000+ total decisions included nearly 15,000 admits, over 17,000 defer decisions, and just over 8,000 denies.
As you may be getting questions about the process, our numbers, and even decisions of people you may know or work with, we want to provide some high-level talking points and guidance.
- When in doubt, send those with questions to OAR — our team is poised to answer them.
- These are internal numbers. No one should share any numbers related to admit rates or other admissions details until the 10th day count, as they are not final until that time.
- Decisions cannot be shared via phone or email by any office. Students must view their decision in their MyUW Student Center.
- Due to our holistic review process, we are unable to share with first-year applicants any specifics related to why they received their decision.
- OAR does not discuss any other applicant’s file or decision.
- To better understand our decisions, they can visit https://admissions.wisc.edu/deadlines/.
- This includes defer, which means that students are not admitted or denied and instead will be reconsidered for admission and receive a decision by the end of March, along with our Regular Decision applicants. These students will be prompted and encouraged to self-report their mid-year grades and given instructions on how to share any updates to their admissions file.
