A New Community of Practice with Student Employment – Student Supervisors

OSFA team member, Kari Temkin, shares about the Student Supervisor Community of Practice.

The Student Employment team in the Office of Student Financial Aid has been hearing from professional staff who supervise students that there’s a need for community building, resource sharing, and troubleshooting among this population. Encouraged by the great turnout and interest shared at the Student Employment Summer Summit – the Student Employment team launched a Student Supervisor Community of Practice (CoP).  57 Student supervisors from all different nooks and crannies across campus joined together on September 19th for the kick-off event. In true CoP style, this kick-off was used to gather thoughts from the community regarding the who, what, when, where, and why’s that will be used to shape the direction of the CoP moving forward. Attendees also had a chance to meet one another and share student supervision best practices.  The fire alarm in the middle of the event only added to the excitement!  The Student Employment team is thrilled with the interest, turnout, and deep desire of our colleagues to elevate their skills and impact as a student supervisor. Our next gathering is scheduled for Tuesday, November 21st, 12:30-2:00 Union South TITU. If you’d like to get involved, you can learn more here.
