Student Job Fairs Make Connections

At the start of the 2024-2025 academic year, the Student Employment Team kicked things off with two job fairs: the Federal Work-Study (FWS) Job Fair, in collaboration with the Bucky’s Pell Pathway and BANNER, and the UW–Madison Student Job Fair, in partnership with the Student Employment Initiatives Working Group.  The Federal Work-Study Job Fair took place on Wednesday, August 28th at the Great Hall in Memorial Union. This event aimed to connect Bucky’s Pell Pathway and BANNER first-year students with on-campus and off-campus FWS employers. With 27 employers participating, students had the chance to explore meaningful job opportunities while learning about valuable work experience during their undergraduate career. Over 1,000 students stopped by the fair throughout the afternoon, chatting with employers, enjoying awesome swag, and indulging in a delicious nacho bar! Then, on Tuesday, September 10th, the UW–Madison Stu dent Job Fair took place on East Campus Mall. This event was an opportunity for students to discover on-campus employment as they made their way to the Student Organization Fair. With 15 employers representing a variety of job opportunities, students learned about current openings right in their own backyard! The two job fairs were a resounding success and shows on-campus and off-campus employers are committed to student career development and community engagement. Both events drew large crowds of students that not only showcased job openings, but it reflected the wide range of employment opportunities students can apply to based on their interests. The wide variety of employers include areas in technology, education, non-profits, small businesses, etc. Many students shared their successful networking experiences by making connections with employers at each table, and on the opposite spectrum, employers appreciated the enthusiasm of students and how it positively impacted their recruitment process. Overall, the job fairs fostered collaboration between employers across campus and the Madison community. This opportunity not only benefits students but it allows employers to interact with a new talented workforce.
