A new year has brought a slew of changes to the Office of the Registrar’s website.
With the leadership and coordination of Logan Reigstad, several projects crossed the finish line between mid-November and the end of January, each focused on improving access to information and simplifying the language we use to explain the nuances of our highly technical and policy-driven work.
Read on for details about each project:
Credit Evaluation webpages overhaul
The Credit Evaluation section of the website has undergone perhaps its most significant update since the CES team moved from Admissions to the RO more than five years ago! This bottom-up reimagining was necessitated by changes in practice as well as the addition of tools like Transferology to our toolkit.
A new Transfer Credit Overview page provides a basic summary of the types of academic credit that students can bring from other institutions to UW–Madison, and other new pages provide step-by-step instructions on how students can submit those credits for inclusion on their academic records. Meanwhile, some information, such as test credit values, has been moved to the Guide in keeping with the practice of making that the “single source of truth.”
Hats off to the entire CES team – Scott Golueke, Jack Hadlich, Julie Meyer, Lindsey Radloff, My Linh Do, Sarah Duford, and Tracy Mores – for their meticulous project planning and content revising!
New home for Minnesota Reciprocity information
We have also launched a new Minnesota Reciprocity webpage that explains how students from Minnesota can apply for and receive reciprocal tuition rates at UW–Madison. This new page greatly expands the amount of reciprocity-related information on our website while isolating it from other residency-related topics.
Special shout-outs to Dani Creasey and Heidi Tuescher-Gille, who were instrumental in creating this new page, as well as Tony Pietsch for lending his expertise to the project. Thank you as well to several members of the OSFA team – Karla Weber Wandel, Joselyn Diaz-Valdes, MollyJo Bautch, and CC Vang – for collaborating on language explaining how reciprocity and BANNER fit together.
FERPA and AI
Coinciding with DEM’s new guidelines and training on the use of generative artificial intelligence, we rolled out a new webpage that outlines what campus users should consider when using FERPA-protected data with AI tools. While primarily focused on the use of AI meeting summarization tools, the page is built to accommodate future additions as we continue to explore the capabilities and limitations of AI.
Thank you to Beth Warner, as well as Claire Dalle Molle from the Office of Compliance and Rachel Jeris from the Office of Legal Affairs, for crafting much of the language on the page.
New name for Public Data Request report
The “Public Data Request” has a new name!
The report containing publicly releasable student directory information is now the “Student Directory Data Request.” This name change clarifies the type of data included in the report and reduces confusion with other data reports from DAPIR and the Office of Compliance. While the name is new, the steps to obtain the report are the same and can be found on the recently refreshed Reports and Data Request Resources webpage.
Thank you to the Data Reporting and Eligibility team for coming up with a new name.

Taken together, these projects highlight work from a wide cross-section of the RO and demonstrate the results of collaborating across teams – in the RO, within DEM, and around campus – to continually improve the ways we support students, faculty, and staff.
