Sustainability Meets Student Support: Badger Reclaim Begins!

During move-in week, the Basic Needs team in the Office of Student Financial Aid partnered with Mad City Moving and University Housing Sustainability to implement Badger Reclaim. This initiative provided hundreds of free household items like desks, headboards, fans, shelving, and much more to UW–Madison students. Demand for these items was so strong that everything was reserved within just a few days. As one student commented:
“I’d like to thank you SO, SO MUCH for all of the hard work put into providing this resource for students. You are very much appreciated! As a student who works three jobs […] I don’t know what I would have done without your support for my first year living off campus. Even picking up a few items probably saved me over $100! I am so appreciative for you making this available […].”
Donated items all came from UW–Madison students moving out of their residence halls last spring and we expect to see even more donations after Spring 2026 move-out – information on where, when and what to donate items can be found on our website.
