Changes to the Application
Transfer students can only apply via UW System Application and cannot apply via the Common Application.
Freshman who apply via the Common Application will need to self report their grades at the time of application. A decision can be made without an official transcript. After the student is admitted, an official transcript will be required to verify grades before enrolling. The Common Application will require that they submit a transcript also. Freshman who apply via the UW System Application will still need to send in transcripts from all schools attended grades 9-12.
We have updated our essay prompts. The new essay prompts are: Tell us why you decided to apply to the University of Wisconsin–Madison. In addition, please include why you are interested in studying the major(s) you have selected. If you selected undecided please describe your areas of possible academic interest. (both Common Application and E-App) Tell us about your academic and personal achievements. What have you learned from your success and/or challenges, and how will this influence you as you pursue your college education? (E-App)
The following additional changes have been made:
- We have changed the wording from preferred major and alternate major to first choice major and second choice major.
- We have added the full name of college to the major selection not the acronyms
- We have removed field of study from the application. Only majors are available.
- We have added an asterisks to majors that offer direct entry and addition text that to be considered for direct entry, that major must be your first choice.
