‘No Leave Taken’ – Make sure to Report

Academic staff and limited appointees must report leave, even if no leave was taken. Failure to do this will result is a reduction of sick leave. This is not an empty policy, DEM staff have seen reductions based on this policy. Any faculty, academic staff, or limited appointee who fails to file a report on leave usage, as required by UW System policy, in one or more months of any year shall not be permitted to accrue sick leave for that year in an amount exceeding the cap established by Wis. Stat. § 40.05(4)(bp)1 (i.e., 8.5 days if annual-basis or 6.4 days if academic year – basis). The cap may be blended if the employee has both an academic year and annual basis appointment during the same fiscal year. Leave reports are required even if no leave is taken (report “No Leave Taken”). If you received an email from the UW Service Center that you will be losing sick leave based on not reporting leave usage and you feel it is an error, please complete the Request to Review Sick Leave Reduction form and return it to Paula (paula.gates@wisc.edu) no later than 11/25/2019. DEM HR will provide employees the results of their requests no later than 12/23/2019. To avoid this reduction in the future, please be sure to have all leave reports turned in before the deadline. Your sick leave is a valuable benefit. The following web site provides detailed information about the sick leave program and its benefits: https://www.wisconsin.edu/ohrwd/benefits/leave/sick/.
