Focus on Bias: 12.2019

The Office of Student Financial Aid distributes a monthly email focused on implicit bias with some videos to watch, articles to read, and other events around campus and the community that we encourage you to attend if your schedule allows. Video of the Month: Echoes of Incarceration – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0HooqTwh_4. This video was produced by young people with formerly incarcerated parents. Podcast of the Month: The Prison Family Journey from the Prison Life Podcast – https://podbay.fm/podcast/1009896244/e/1439980200. Article of the Month: The Hidden Cost of Incarceration by Nicole Lewis and Beatrix Lockwood – https://www.themarshallproject.org/2019/12/17/the-hidden-cost-of-incarceration. The New York Times recently did a series on family and incarceration for the holidays in conjunction with The Marshall Project, a nonprofit newsroom that covers the U.S. criminal justice system. I highly recommend reading some of the other articles that were included in this series on the Marshall Project’s Families of the Incarcerated website: https://www.themarshallproject.org/records/20-families-of-the-incarcerated. Upcoming Trainings, Workshops, & Events (Newly added events are bolded) If you know of any videos, podcasts, articles, events, etc. that would be perfect to include in these updates, please send them along to Erica Tisdale at erica.tisdale@wisc.edu.
