Implementing Virtual SOAR
We are LIVE with virtual SOAR! The first week of SOAR began this past Monday and our incoming Badgers have begun the enrollment process. With the decision to move SOAR to a virtual delivery model it was imperative that students are provided the training and support resources to ensure that they successfully enroll in a full-time schedule during their orientation programming while having their questions answered about being a new Badger.
The Office of the Registrar was approached by the SOAR Four Planning Team to play a role in creating content for the SOAR Canvas course to help introduce students to the Course Search & Enroll app and ultimately get them enrolled in courses during their SOAR experience.
Aaron Apel worked with David Olson, DoIT Academic Technology Video Producer, to create two videos used in the SOAR Canvas course that all incoming freshman and transfer students are required to take. Video 1, presented in Step 3 of the course, introduces students to the Course Search & Enroll app and teaches students how to search for courses and save the ones they’re interested in to their cart. Video 2, presented in Step 5 after the 1-on-1 advising appointment, focuses on building a schedule and enrolling in courses. We made sure that the videos weren’t focused specifically on SOAR, but more of a general overview of the CS&E app so that they could be used on the RO site as support resources along with the other CS&E support documentation.
Kudos to the Office of Undergraduate Advising, DoIT Academic Technology, and our RO colleagues for coming together quickly and making these resources available for our incoming 2020 SOAR students! This was truly a collaborative effort and we couldn’t have pulled it off without the help of everyone involved! Sometimes it takes a village.
The Office of Student Financial Aid has provided a recorded version of the ‘Managing Finances: Understanding Financial Aid” presentation for students to watch online.
And learning from its popular ‘drop-in advising’ appointments that were piloted last summer, OSFA be transitioning to offer that same opportunity virtually from 11 am – Noon Monday through Friday during SOAR. Incoming students and their families only need to call our office (680.262.3060) during that hour to immediately get connected with an advisor to have all their questions addressed.
