SAP in the Time of COVID-19, Pt 2

As you read about last month, the rules regarding Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) have adjusted to give schools additional flexibilities in how it’s calculated due to the events of COVID-19 and it educational impacts. The SAP team has determined that students who fail SAP (whether due to COVID-19 related issues or not) will still be required to submit both a Student Appeal form and have an academic advisor complete an Advisor form.  However, adjustments to the forms were made to give both the student and their advisor an opportunity to note COVID-19 related impacts.  (Check them out online, https://financialaid.wisc.edu/eligibility/#appeal-process) And even though we feared our notification to impacted students would be delayed with changing rules – students were successfully emailed on June 4th, right on our usual schedule!  Shout out to Alex White for his hard work to make this timeline happen! In addition to notifying students, the SAP Team has begun some extra outreach to DDEEA program directors, Letters & Science, and the School of Education to make them aware of their scholars currently failing SAP.  The hope it to continue this outreach to the other schools and colleges in the coming weeks so that we can resolve failures for as many students as possible, as quickly as possible!  If you ever have questions about SAP or an impacted student, feel free to reach out to the SAP Team (Martina Diaz, Joselyn Diaz-Valdes, and Micaela Salas) directly, satisfactory.progress@finaid.wisc.edu.
