Celebrating, Remembering, and Learning about Diversity
Here are just a few of the opportunities coming in February to celebrate, remember, and learn about diversity and social justice.
- February is Black History Month. Information about Black History Month events at UW–Madison can be found here. The Milwaukee Repertory Theater will be presenting four free virtual events as a part of “We Rise: MKE’s Celebration of Black History Month.”
- February 12 is the Lunar New Year. 2021 will be the Year of the Ox! Click here to learn more about this celebration. Lunar New Year is celebrated in many Asian countries including China where about 3,000 of UW–Madison’s current students are from. The Chinese Students and Scholars Association promotes Chinese culture, tradition, and cultural exchange on campus.
- February 20 is World Day of Justice. The United Nations created this international day to recognize the need to tackle social injustices including poverty, exclusion, gender inequality, unemployment, human rights, and social protection. The Wisconsin Union’s Social Justice Hub helps students develop the skills and connections needed to engage in this social justice work.
