University Catalog Collaboration Exemplifies Core Value
Utilizing shared knowledge, creativity, and innovation to examine unique circumstances is one of the core values of the Office of the Registrar. This value continues to be met in many ways, and was evident in a recent example where Associate Registrar for Academic Services Will Lipske participated in discussions with Youngstown State University (YSU) about the university catalog and our curriculum management process.
CourseLeaf introduced the connection between YSU and UW–Madison to demonstrate how we utilize CourseLeaf in innovative and new ways. Those in attendance were able to share ideas and ask questions about various practices and procedures of the software.
Will provided several UW–Madison instances, and associated examples for context, of assorted uses of the software, namely its use in regards to Courses and Programs and Guide, namely student-centered filters and update cycles. Specifically, Will shared advice and resources regarding the policy for applying filters to courses, governance for update cycles, and the workflow and automated communication that are used in association with these practices and procedures.
What was shared at the meeting, as well as follow up materials, conversation, and resources, provided a clear picture and use case for YSU to evaluate and consider expanding their CourseLeaf practices. It also provided an opportunity for the RO to perpetuate the Wisconsin Idea and share our experiences with another university.
