Learning about Diversity in July
Here are a few of the opportunities coming in July to learn about diversity and social justice.
- July 4 is Independence Day in the United States. Declaration of Independence asserted that “we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” On this 245th Independence Day, take a moment to reflect on how Americans have and have not lived up to this ideal and what you can do about it.
- July 11 is World Population Day. Do you know what the current population of the United States and the World is? The United Nations established World Population Day on July 11, 1987 when the global population reached five billion to raise awareness of population issues and their disproportional impact.
- July 18 is Nelson Mandela International Day. To celebrate the legacy of this South African statemen and humanitarian the committee asks “Nelson Mandela fought for social justice for 67 years. We are asking you to start with 67 minutes.” Click here to learn more about public service opportunities at UW–Madison.
