Learning about Diversity in August

Here are few opportunities in August to learn about diversity and social justice.
  •  August 23 is the International Day of Remembrance for the Slave Trade and its Abolition. The United Nations pauses to remember the tragedy of the slave trade on the anniversary of an uprising of enslaved people in Santo Domingo (now Haiti and the Dominican Republic). It is estimated the 12,000,000 Africans were transported to the Americas from the 16th to the 19th centuries during what became known as the Middle Passage.
We are always looking ahead!  If you have something you would like to include in the future DEM Updates, please send it to Todd at todd.reck@wisc.edu.
