DEI Work in Student Employment

The Student Employment team in the Office of Student Financial Aid aligns with the UW–Madison institutional diversity statement and places a deep value and importance on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our team is committed to enhancing the student employment experience creating a more equitable, inclusive and diverse workplace. As a part of this work, our team hosted the second annual Student Employment Diversity forum. This week long forum consisted of 7 sessions with topics ranging from Creating Community and Equity in the Workplace to Privilege and Identity. The forum had students represented from 17 different departments across campus and provided student employees with an opportunity to engage in thought provoking discussion with their peers. Students stated that they enjoyed the opportunity to gain information and were glad the forum was offered! We also aim to provide opportunities for hiring managers which includes our Student Employment Supervisor Series. This series takes place the third Tuesday of every month at 1pm. Each month the series either focuses on a hot topic within student employment or features a DEI podcast that relates to Student Employment.  These opportunities provide great discussion spaces for hiring managers to bounce ideas off one another to continue to ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion are present in the student employment experience.
