Decisions, Decisions – First-Year Early Action Fall 2022

On Friday, January 28, we released all first-year Early Action decisions. This release was our largest yet at 36,800 decisions sent to students. These decisions included nearly 19,500 admits, just over 12,000 defer decisions, and around 5,200 deny decisions. Students were notified via email when their decision was available in their MyUW Student Center, with emails staggered over a few hours to try to alleviate the strain of all students logging in to view their decisions at the same time. Concerns about overwhelming SIS are also why our office does not notify students ahead of time of the date and time of our decision releases. This year, SIS was down for a short time at 7:00 p.m. due to the demand on the system, but thanks to help from partners in DEM and our Database Administrators, resources were reallocated, the issue was resolved quickly, and students were viewing their decisions by 7:20 p.m. Students who were deferred were sent a new communication within 24 hours of receiving their decision, covering the main questions from deferred students and key next steps, including self-reporting their mid-year grades and how to update their file with additional information. This information was also shared with high school counselors to help support deferred students, as well as those with an admit or deny decision. Domestic admitted students have begun to receive their admit packet that includes a paper version of their admission letter, the Admitted Student Checklist booklet (a collaboration with partners across campus), a message to the parents and families of admitted students, and a special welcome envelope featuring Bucky Badger. International admits receive a virtual version of the guide with specific information regarding International Student Services (ISS), the I-20 process, and International Student Orientation (ISO), which was sent to Early Action international admits a few days after they received their admission decision. Our first-year Regular Decision release will be on or before March 31. Our transfer Priority Decision release will happen by the end of March, and transfer Regular Decision will be by the end of April.
