Advisor trainings promotes RO mission

Eric MacKay (Assistant Registrar for Degree Audit and Academic Programs, Office of the Registrar) collaborated with Kala Grove (Coordinator for New Advisor Training, Office of Undergraduate Advising), Emily Schmidt (Assistant Director, Cross-College Advising Service), and Jeff Shokler (Director for Technology & Assessment, Office of Undergraduate Advising) to provide a “DARS and Tech Overview” virtual training session on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.  Approximately 40 people registered for the training. Although the training was presented as a basic overview for newer advisors, participants came from a variety of campus roles with a wide range of experiences from across campus. Eric presented a live demo of how advisors use DARS Web to request a student’s DARS audit, and how students use the Course Search & Enroll app to request their DARS audits. Emily Schmidt provided valuable insights on how advisors can use the information presented in DARS audits to prepare for advising conversations. Jeff Shokler also provided an overview of the many advising technologies available to advisors.  This is not the first time the RO has partnered across campus with advising units to provide successful, necessary training. The training helps the RO further complete its mission of collaborating and engaging with the campus community to ensure we efficiently and effectively meet the needs of faculty, staff and students. The RO is excited to continue collaborating with advising units on these types of training in the future.
