Engaging with the campus community through trainings
The Office of the Registrar continues to foster and grow its relationships with campus partners through learning opportunities and trainings. Our team has found that these frequent touch points not only provide those we work with necessary information to complete their work effectively, but also build relationships and strengthen partnerships.
Recently, on September 22, 2022, the RO held a virtual training event for new advising staff to learn about DARS and credit evaluation services. This training was presented by team members from the RO, as well as team members from the Office of Undergraduate Advising and the advising community. During the presentation, attendees were introduced to technology systems and online support resources that are important to their work. Attendees also received an overview of DARS and Credit Evaluation Services (CES), including demos, lists of resources and timelines. While the DARS team has presented to this audience before, this was CES’s first time participating in the training, and individuals in the training were excited about the edition.
The RO also had team members present on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and student records to new academic advisors in Letters and Sciences (L&S). Participants asked excellent questions on FERPA scenarios, as well as how they might interact with the RO in their roles as advisors.
These continued training sessions with campus partners are not only rewarding to those in attendance and those presenting, but they help further the mission of the RO: collaborate and engage with the campus community to ensure we efficiently and effectively meet the needs of faculty, staff and students; and continuously support the teaching and learning mission of the University of Wisconsin–Madison and embrace the Wisconsin Idea.
