First-Year Wait List and Transfer Defer – What You Need to Know

On March 17, OAR released our transfer Priority Decisions. Along with students who were admitted and denied, there were student who received a defer decision. Transfer defer is similar to first-year defer, but not the same. A transfer student who received a defer decision must provide final grades for the current quarter or trimester to receive their admission decision. These students will receive their decisions in June. On March 24, OAR released our first-year Regular Decisions. These include admit, deny, and wait list decisions. Students who receive a wait list offer are neither admitted nor denied. Instead, we feel they have what it takes to be successful, but there simply is not enough room in the class at this time. Once first-year students make a final decision by May 1, we can then evaluate what space remains in the class and admit students from the wait list. Students must accept their spot on the wait list to be admitted from it. They have until April 15 to do so. Once they accept their offer, they will also be given the opportunity to self-report mid-year grades, if they have not yet done so, and share any updates for consideration. Learn more from our Wait List FAQs. Wisconsin resident students who receive a wait list offer are also invited to be part of the Connections Program. The Connections Program allows students who were not admitted as first-year students to attend a partner campus and transfer automatically. Students can accept both the wait list offer and the Connections Program offer, only one, or decline both. Acceptance of the Connections Program does not impact their ability to be admitted from the wait list. If admitted from the wait list, students will be removed from the Connections Program.
