Two Floating Legal Holidays must be used by December 31, 2023 for University Staff, Hourly-Paid Team Members Whose Leave is on the Calendar Year

Since December 24 (Christmas Eve) and December 31 (New Year’s Eve) fall on a Sunday this year AND Monday, December 25/Monday January 1 are Legal Holidays, leave-eligible team members can use 8 hours of “floating holiday” for December 24 and December 31 (16 hours/2 days total). These floating holiday hours must be used in the calendar year or the fiscal year in which they occur.
  • University Staff (hourly team members on the calendar year for leave) need to use 16 hours of floating Legal Holiday by December 31, 2023. These hours can be used any time during January 1 and December 31, 2023, and will be lost if not used by December 31, 2023.
  • Academic Staff and Limited Appointees (salaried team members on the fiscal year for leave, which is July 1 through June 30), must use 16 hours of floating Legal Holiday by June 30, 2024, and will be lost if not used by June 30, 2024.
Floating Legal Holidays are reported in the same way you report Vacation, Sick Leave, Personal Holiday, except that you select “Legal Holiday (CLS)” or “Legal Holiday (UNC)”.
