Changes to Mentor Collective

OAR and OSFA have teamed up to combine mentorship programs to be more student-centric in the timeline and programming offered. Previously, OAR’s program for underrepresented students of color began with admission and ended on May 1st with a focus on the yield season. OSFA’s program for Pell grant eligible students began in the summer and ended after Spring semester. Starting with this season, all underrepresented students of color and Pell grant eligible students are invited upon admission (for both Early Action (EA) and Regular Decision (RD) admits; pell-eligible students that haven’t already been invited will receive an invitation when FAFSA information is made available). Those mentees who matriculate will stay with their same mentor through the Fall semester. This combined program approach provides support for our DEM target populations not just in their decision to come here, but also setting the foundation for success once they arrive. Our paid mentors receive training throughout the year to prepare them for the next phase of their mentor journey (one before admitted students are invited, one before the summer for matriculated students and one before the fall semester starts). This program supports students through the college search process, and provides them additional support as they transition to college. Our approach to using mentorship through the Mentor Collective platform at the yield and first year experience levels administered through the Enrollment Management lens is quite unique and is another representation of DEM being a national leader in our collective work.
