Outage – DEM Shared Drives – Sunday, January 12
DoIT Departmental Support and DoIT Systems Engineering will be upgrading the EM-IO file server on Sunday, January 12th, with an expected outage window spanning from 9am – 5pm. What will be impacted during this outage? During this migration, the entirety of EM-IO will be out of service. DEM Home folders and SIS 9.2 drives will not be impacted during this migration. EM-IO is comprised of most of DEM’s Shared drives – Group Shares, Office Shares, and other folders which commonly get mapped to I:, S:, O:, and other drive letters. Why is this outage happening? The file server currently housing the DEM Shared drives is out of warranty and is being migrated to new infrastructure hosted by DoIT Systems Engineering. Will I be able to use my Shared folders during this migration? No. Data stored in any shared folder on EM-IO will be inaccessible during this migration. This will include (but is not limited to): Group Shares (O:), Office Shares (I:), EM Shared (S:), FLEX, and EM Transfer (T:). Will I need to do anything after this migration? Departmental Support staff will be on hand during and after the migration to ensure functionality is restored and automatic policies are updated. Once the update has finished, you will need to reboot your computer. If you have created your own shortcuts to folders on the shared drive, you may need to re-create them. DS technicians will be onsite on Monday, January 13th. Additional (if somewhat technical) information about the shared drive services can be found here: https://it.wisc.edu/services/storage-file/. If you have any additional questions regarding the change, don’t hesitate to contact the DoIT Desktop Support Team at support@doit.wisc.edu or 608-264-4357.
