Freshman wait list and transfer defer

The Office of Admissions and Recruitment continues to work through our freshman wait list and transfer deferred decisions to admit new students and build the Fall 2020 class. Students who are admitted off the wait list have two weeks from the date of their admission to accept their offer and confirm their spot in the incoming class. Extensions may be granted for those with extenuating circumstances, including military or medical-related.  Students who are admitted off the wait list are offered weekly virtual Admitted Student Information Sessions and Next Steps Panels to help answer questions regarding their steps toward enrollment. The Next Steps Panels feature representatives from University Housing, the Center for the First-Year Experience, Credit Evaluation Services, University Health Services, and the Office of Student Financial Aid. Wait list admits are also able to participate in one-on-one chats with our admissions counselors and Instagram Live AMA (Ask Me Anything) events. Students who are admitted off of the wait list are not eligible for deferred enrollment. Transfer students who received a defer admission decision are required to submit their most recent term’s final transcript in order to be evaluated for a final admission decision. We continue to review and admit students who we feel will find success at UW–Madison. Students who were deferred and are now admitted have two weeks from the time of admission to make their decision, or two weeks from the time they receive their credit evaluation, whichever is later. Next, transfer admits are able to connect one-on-one with our admissions counselors via WebEx meetings that are available for students to schedule at a time that works best for them. There are also virtual Transfer Information Sessions that newly admitted transfer students are welcome to attend and Instagram Live AMAs. The wait list remains active, and we continue to work through it as the class comes together. We continue to receive final transcripts for our deferred transfer students and are quickly turning decisions around.
