Wisconsin Counselor Outreach

The Wisconsin Initiatives Team, along with additional OAR team members supporting outreach and recruitment in Wisconsin, have developed a suite of outreach opportunities for the fall to counselors from Wisconsin high schools. Our admissions counselors have personally emailed most of the high school counselors in Wisconsin to connect and offer virtual visits for their students. The response to the invitations has been inconsistent, and attendance has varied. The team has also offered some WI regional evening virtual visits for students/parents with varied attendance by region. A variety of event programming has been developed to reach Wisconsin high school counselors this fall:   Virtual Counselor Information Sessions  This UW–Madison Information Session for counselors will focus on updates to the application cycle, including information on optional ACT/SAT scores, materials required to submit an application, timelines, and an update from our Office of Student Financial Aid. All counselors and teachers who are able to attend are welcome. Date: October 20 Time: 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Recommend for those working with seniors applying in time for the November 1 Early Action deadline.  Date: December 8  Time: 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Recommended for those working with seniors applying in time for the February 1 Regular Decision deadline and other high school students thinking about applying to college.     Ask a UW–Madison Admissions Counselor Events These events are geared toward high school counselors who have questions about UW–Madison. Counselors are invited to join for 5 minutes or the entire hour to talk with admissions counselors from the UW–Madison Wisconsin Initiatives Team. This time is meant for high school counselors and other professionals who are supporting students through the college admissions process. While each day has a topic of focus, all questions about UW–Madison are always welcome.   ACT/SAT Optional Date: Thursday, October 1 Time: 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.   Supporting Seniors Applying to College Date: Tuesday, October 6 Time: 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. (all questions welcome)   Supporting Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen Thinking About College Date: Tuesday, October 20 Time: 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.   College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) Date: Wednesday, October 28 Time? Counselors are encouraged to share the event with agriculture educators and FFA and 4-H advisors. Tom Browne from CALS will join to share academic, research, and outreach opportunities for students at UW–Madison.
