Adding Students to the RO Team and Improving Their Training

This has been an exciting semester for the RO Student Services team as we have doubled our student employee team. In an effort to support the expansion of the student services scope, we needed to increase our student staff. This Fall, student employees will be trained on student records & enrollment, credit evaluation services, and eventually residency for tuition purposes.  Through in person and remote group training, new RO student employees are currently learning student records and enrollment work. Our returning students have been crucial in training and onboarding new student staff. We are also utilizing subject matter experts across the office to train the new and returning student employees on topics like the National Student Clearinghouse, degrees and diplomas, and email etiquette. It has been a total office effort to get these students onboarded, as well as getting the returning students reacquainted with working in person. With the help of Dana Stav, we have created a Canvas course for the RO student employees that houses all of their training materials and resources. Student employees work through the modules with a brief quiz at the end to check their understanding of the topics covered. Once the students have completed all of the modules and quizzes, they can refer back to the content as needed. This has been a fantastic training tool, and has been particularly helpful for student employees when they are training at home during their remote shifts. Canvas is a living resource, and we will continue to add and build on it as we expand the scope of the services our student employees provide. Specifically, this will be great when the students are trained on credit evaluation services and residency for tuition purposes, which is new territory for them! We are off to a great start this Fall and are looking forward to continuing to grow our student employee program in the future.
