DEM Launches DEI Curriculum

With TTC now in full effect, 5% of all DEM roles are now dedicated to DEI efforts. The updated job descriptions state: DEM is committed to the highest standard of service. This position will be a role model by practicing exemplary, respectful and inclusive behaviors in all interactions. Participation in unit and divisional diversity & inclusion plans are mandatory. Coinciding with this updated job description, DEM’s DEI Focus Group has developed a divisional diversity & inclusion plan that we are calling the DEI Curriculum. As stated in the job duty, participation in the DEI Curriculum is mandatory for all DEM team members. The DEI Curriculum requires all DEM Team Members to complete:
  • at least 30 hours of training and/or experiences from the DEM approved trainings list each year,
  • a DEI self-assessment (coming soon!) annually,
  • some form of prejudice or bias habit breaking training within the first six months of their employment, and
  • at least one performance discussion with their supervisor on their goals and accomplishments related to the DEI Curriculum annually.
The DEI Curriculum is not meant to interfere with or replace any on-going unit DEI efforts. In fact, trainings or experiences already occurring in units may actually be included as part of the required training hours required by the DEI Curriculum. OVPEM will be hosting a training on the DEI Curriculum in the coming months so keep any eye out for a calendar invite! If you have any questions about the DEI Curriculum, email dei@em.wisc.edu.
