WSoB pilots edX project
In 2021, UW–Madison entered a partnership with edX/2U to host non-credit courses on the edX platform and pilot hosting a Wisconsin School of Business Masters in Business: Data, Insights and Analytics degree on the platform. The purpose of the engagement is to amplify awareness for UW–Madison programs to a global audience, harness recruiting data to support our pipeline of students, and support The Wisconsin Idea and the university’s 2025 Strategic Framework.
Founded by Harvard University and MIT in 2012, edX is an online learning destination, offering high-quality courses, certificates and degrees from the world’s best universities and institutions to 42 million global and diverse learners.
The pilot implementation included launching a 3-course, noncredit micromasters in Business Analytics in edX in Fall 2022. Applications for the for-credit WSB Masters in Business: Data, Insights and Analytics launched in Spring 2023. The first learners in the for-credit Masters in Business start this fall.
Many people from the RO and DEM were involved to help with the implementation and to make this new approach possible. DEM team members have assisted with data feeds and integrations between SIS and edX, cybersecurity and data protection, credit for prior learning, grading in a new LMS, financial aid, enrollment controls and course requisites, and more!
While the launch is quickly approaching, the implementation and maintenance of this new model will be iterative. We’ve developed short-term solutions and are invested in the continued collaboration with the WSB, Division of Continuing Studies, DoIT, and DAPIR colleagues for longer-term solutions to support this program.
