Annual Benefits Enrollment (ABE) Appeals Process
If DEM team members have any extenuating circumstances that resulted in them missing their opportunity to enroll and/or make changes to their 2024 benefits, they may submit an appeal. Benefits Services has told us that “I forgot” is not a valid reason for an appeal. However, there may be reasons that may be approved.
To request consideration of a late election/changes and file an appeal, team members must submit it electronically through the UW-Share Services (UWSS).

- Appeal Deadline is 30 days from when team members are notified of appeal ability or the below deadline, whichever is sooner:
- Rescinds (for all plans listed below): appeals are accepted through December 31, 2023
- Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) & Health Savings Accounts (HSA) appeals are accepted through January 31, 2024
- Dental, Vision and Accident Insurance appeals are accepted through February 29, 2024
- State Group Health Insurance and Health Opt-Out Incentive appeals are accepted through April 15, 2024
- Submission of an appeal does not guarantee approval. Once a decision has been made regarding your appeal, you will be notified via email.
