OAR Hosts Spring 2024 Off-Campus Events

Wisconsin Events High school students and their families were invited to speak with staff from the Office of Admissions and Recruitment at 11 locations around the state at this year’s Meet Madison prospective student events. The events were held in libraries, community centers, and other community-based venues in Appleton, De Pere, Eau Claire, Kenosha, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Minocqua, Platteville, Superior, Wausau, and Wauwatosa. Each event featured a brief presentation about academics, campus life, and admissions, then offered an opportunity for Q&A and conversation. By having a presence across the state and hosting weekday evening programs, we were accessible to families that may not be able to miss school/work or travel to Madison. We spoke with a total of 167 guests across all 11 locations. Staff who worked the events reported engaging conversations with families and gratitude for coming to their communities. National Yield Events The Office of Admissions and Recruitment hosted a series of events across the United States during the month of April. Large-scale admitted student receptions and prospective student information sessions sponsored by local alumni were hosted in Boston, northern New Jersey, and Los Angeles. Additionally, for the first time, we were able to partner with alumni in Atlanta, GA, and Boca Raton, FL, to host small, in-home, admitted student receptions. Provost Isbell joined the group in Atlanta, sharing his own connection to the state of Georgia and words of wisdom with future Badgers and their families. The Office of Admissions and Recruitment was also able to connect with New York admitted students in Westchester County, Long Island, and Manhattan by hosting admitted student information sessions at high schools in the area. An admitted student information session was also hosted in Bethesda, MD, to reach students from the D.C. area. Alumni volunteers helped to staff many of our events, lending an additional air of excitement as they discussed their time at UW–Madison. Across all events, the Office of Admissions and Recruitment was able to reach over 550 students and guests.
