For 10 days in February, the RO hosted two members of the NU Registrar’s Office staff – Saltanat Beisembina and Olzhas Tuyakbayev. The main goals of their visit were to learn best practices around student services and classroom scheduling. A number of campus partners met with our visitors for meetings and building tours to introduce them to the wide array of ways in which we serve students and help manage campus facilities. Saltanat spent a significant amount of her visit shadowing the RO Student Services team, interacting with our student workers and meeting with campus academic advisors. Olzhas primarily worked with our Curricular Services team and campus curricular representatives to learn about classroom scheduling and he spent a full day with UW–Madison Facilities and Planning Management to gain their perspective on space management. Of course, we had to make time for some fun too. Our staff enjoyed a presentation on NU and Kazakhstan culture as well as having the opportunity to host Saltanat and Olzhas during meals and introduce them to Wisconsin favorites. We also had a paint night hosted by the Wisconsin Union’s Wheelhouse Studio where a student led a group of us in painting a multimedia Bucky Badger picture.
