For this optional DEM session we’re excited to welcome Dr. Ken Mayer who is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Political Science within the Lafollette School of Public Affairs here at UW–Madison. Dr. Mayer brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience around American government, especially presidential power. He frequently serves as an expert witness, has his work cited in prominent journals, and is the author of several publications, including ‘With the Stroke of a Pen: Executive Orders and Presidential Power’ (Princeton university Press, 2001). During his time with us, we’ve asked Dr. Mayer to share his expertise around the impact to higher education that executive orders could play as well as to help outline the role of federal agencies and local governments to execute on presidential authority.
Please note, we’ve asked Dr. Mayer to share his honest assessment of the current landscape across Higher Education based on his years of experience and research for the purpose of building awareness. Some of what he is likely to share may also not be easy to hear, but we believe is important to be aware of as we each continue to navigate the quickly changing realities around us. This is intended to be an informational session with time for some Q&A from the group.
