Emergency Safety Information
333 East Campus Mall has designated evacuation and meeting locations in the case of an emergency.
The fire system consists of horns, strobes, and voice instructions.
- Strobe lights flashing, NO sound or message to evacuate the building, you DO NOT have to evacuate the building. It is just letting us know there is a problem in the complex. We share the Fire Panel with the whole complex. It does not control just the 333 ECM UW Tower, it also controls all the retail space and the Lucky Apts. Building. That is why we get alerted if there is a problem in the complex.
- Strobe lights flashing, horns going off and audible message stating there is an emergency and to evacuate the building, then you need to leave the building. If the horns and strobes are active, each person should follow the voice instructions to evacuate.
Evacuation routes are posted on each floor near the passenger elevators.
Every elevator has an emergency button that calls University Police. The button has a picture of a telephone handset and is located on the lower right of the elevator button panel.
The stairwells have emergency phones too. Both stairwells have emergency phones located at floors 5 and 10.
The UW Police Department also provides an emergency procedures guide for all campus areas.
Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP)
Working with the UW Police Department, the Division maintains a continuity of operations plan which delineates how to move forward in an urgent situation that disrupts operations.
WiscAlerts

WiscAlerts is the name for UW–Madison’s emergency notification system. The system is designed to provide information about an active emergency situation that requires the community to take immediate action in order to stay safe.
Although WiscAlerts will be sent via campus email and landline phones, students, faculty and staff can also sign up online to receive alerts via text message. It’s simple and takes just a few moments.

Policies
Inclement weather
The UW–Madison Chancellor is responsible for determining if, for the safety and welfare of students and staff, classes will be postponed or some services suspended due to inclement weather. Some university services and functions must remain in operation to maintain campus infrastructure or provide core campus services regardless of weather conditions, for example, University Housing and Dining, University Police, essential research and animal care and power plant operations.
In the event of inclement weather, employees are expected to report to work unless directed otherwise. Each employee is advised to use discretion and caution regarding their health and safety. An employee who reasonably determines that it is not safe to travel due to inclement weather will not be subject to discipline for being absent. Supervisors are expected to honor reasonable requests of employees to arrive late or to leave early because of inclement weather. Employees are expected to notify their supervisors if they cannot report to work or will report late.
