VSMAC Partnerships – February 2019
The Veteran Services & Military Assistance Center hosted a resource event for new military-affiliated students on February 6th. Campus colleagues Lea Polizzi (Financial Aid), Shelby Knuth (Transfer Transitions), and Lori Christianson (Admissions) were available to answer student questions and provide information. Representatives from five local organizations, including the Madison Vet Center, Wisconsin Veterans Museum, and the Middleton VA Hospital, also attended. Overall, 25 students took advantage of the opportunity to learn more about various resources and network with other military-affiliated students. Joe Rasmussen and Jolene Anders gave a presentation on “Military-Connected Students & The Wisconsin Experience” at the 2019 Advising Conference on February 27th. The presentation focused on the unique needs of military-connected students and encouraged discussion on how these needs impact advising. Attendees left with information on how use of the GI Bill can impact course selection, UW–Madison’s Active Duty Policy, and additional helpful resources for their students.
