Focus on Bias: 5.8.19

The Office of Student Financial Aid distributes a weekly email focused on implicit bias with some videos to watch, articles to read, and other events around campus and the community that we encourage you to attend if your schedule allows. Video of the Week: How Can I Say This So We Can Stay in This Car Together? from the On Being Podcast – https://onbeing.org/programs/claudia-rankine-how-can-i-say-this-so-we-can-stay-in-this-car-together-jan2019/. This podcast is about 52 minutes long. Article of the Week: It ‘makes you feel invisible’ by Rachel Hatzipanagos – https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/05/02/co-workers-keep-mixing-up-people-color-office-its-more-than-mistake. This article talks about an issue that’s commonplace at UW–Madison, colleagues mixing up the names of colleagues of color. It delves into microaggressions as well, which is a review for us, but the stories in the article are 100% worth reading. Upcoming Trainings, Workshops, & Events (Newly added events are bolded) If you know of any videos, podcasts, articles, events, etc. that would be perfect to include in these updates, please send them along to Erica Tisdale at erica.tisdale@wisc.edu.
