On(line) Wisconsin!

UW Madison will welcome its first class of (fully) online undergraduate students this fall. The program is open to transfer and re-entry students with at least 24 transferable college credits and a 2.0 minimum GPA. The pilot program is a Bachelor of Science in Personal Finance within the School of Human Ecology.  The online program offers a combination of financial planning and consumer finance learning. The program website states that “Students will learn key concepts in the curriculum, including principles of financial planning and development, risk and insurance, taxation, investment planning, retirement and savings, and estate planning. All graduates who complete certain courses leave fully prepared to sit for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) exam.” Students are paired with admission counselors and academic coaches in the Department of Continuing Studies to ensure a smooth application, admission and enrollment experience. DCS works in turn with several members of the Admissions, Registrar and Financial Aid offices who are dedicated to completing each step of the enrollment process as quickly as possible, usually within days.  Most students in the online program will enroll part-time with the first graduates expected to finish the program in 2024. In the fall of 2021, UW Madison plans to extend the online undergraduate programs to include new majors in Management and Human Resources, Marketing, and Retail and Consumer Behavior.
