Birds of a feather flock together towards curricular management

On October 29, 2021, Assistant Registrars Jeff Armstrong and Eric MacKay served as panelists for a virtual “Birds of a Feather” session sponsored by the Higher Education User Group (HEUG). Organized and moderated by Rachael Daniel of UW-Milwaukee, the session focused on a broad array of topics under the umbrella of curricular management. Several dozen attendees from across the country submitted questions in advance and during the session that spanned Degree Audit and Academic Programs (Eric) and Curricular Services (Jeff). Topics discussed included course-catalog effective dating, curriculum-change workflow systems (like the Courseleaf tools that make up the Lumen suite at UW–Madison), hybrid and hybrid-flexible (HyFlex) instruction modes, business processes for updating the schedule of classes, curricular bug fixes in recent PUM updates from Oracle, and much more. In addition to UW–Madison’s representation, panelists included Natalie Chin from UW-Milwaukee and Becky Cogswell from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
