SIS Governance gets a facelift
Over the past year, an updated Student Information System (SIS) Governance structure was established to provide technical and functional leadership, communication alignment, and oversight in resolving issues, enhancing core processes, and deploying new features related to the campus SIS. The experience and insight of governance members has been invaluable.
Sarah Stilp and Leah Meicher were instrumental in bringing together technical and functional stakeholders with expertise in key service and operational areas with business processes that are primarily supported by SIS. The SIS Steering group engages executive leadership to provide strategic direction and ensure projects are in line with the goals and mission of DEM, DoIT and the University. The SIS Leadership group is made up of members of DEM and DoIT leadership and provides the first-line of decision-making and prioritization of SIS-related projects. The SIS Transformational members meet often to introduce new features, promote best practices and efficiencies, address risks and issues, and develop recommendations for upgrade and maintenance schedules.
With SIS Governance, response to and resolving escalated conflicts and issues has improved through collaborative communication and problem-solving. Also, governance members now have a forum to bring their perspectives from their roles and business areas to streamline decisions on scheduled maintenance so that system outages are not disruptive to the student and staff experience, as well as provide their input on future challenges and opportunities for SIS.
A SIS Community site now hosts SIS Governance discussions and cross functional SIS maintenance activities. The SIS Governance teams will be working together to build out additional areas of the site in the near future.
